Actively Uniting in Ministry for Christ

Pastor's Notes

Moments With Pastor Murphy

"Blessed Assurance, Jesus is mine!  Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine! Heir of salvation, purchase of blood, born of His Spirit, washed in His blood!  This is my story! This is my song! Praising my Savior all the day long!"

"....., oh, what a foretaste of glory divine!"  As I approached the table of the King, my prayer was, "Lord, I am not worthy."  Then, in my heart, I heard the Lord say, "The cross made you worthy!" There,  at the table stood Reverend Dr. William Turner who broke the bread and said to me, "This is the Body of Christ given for you."

Time and space stood still as I looked into Dr. Turner's eyes.  The most awesome thing happened....I didn't see a professor at Duke University...I saw Jesus, and I understood what it meant to go to the table of the King.  As I returned to where I was seated, a sense of community I had never known overwhelmed me.....we weren't observing a memorial act, we were going to the table of the King and feasting at His Heavenly Banquet.

The Eucharist is God's own gift which He makes known to us through the power of the Holy Spirit.  God comes to us.  He enables us to remember what He has given in the gift of our Savior, Jesus Christ. The story of how Jesus suffered, bleed, died, and was resurrected for us is told again, and in the retelling of the story, our lives are located in the life of God.

We, as His sheep, are fed by the Good Shepherd.  We are called to "present our bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is our spiritual worship" (Romans 12:1).

God bless us everyone as we go forth to tell others of God's amazing love for us through our Savior, Jesus Christ.
